Sand Pit / Quarry:
It’s been years since I visited the quarry in Ravine Sable.
After getting getting alot of request for information after posting some pictures, i put this little post together.
Ravine Sable and area found close to central Trinidad Chaguanas, it is home to a massive quarry where they mine red sand.
This sand is used in construction, in the production of houses and other concrete structures.
I have memories as a kid, spending weekends running away to play on the sand hills.
Climbing to the top and rolling or jump of the top of this huge piles or sand below.
Or maybe on a hot day my cousins and friends from the area would frequent the ponds, to frolic and splash.
It’s amazing to see after years of visiting the area how much it has changed.
It has been mined to a crater, miles and mountains of sand gone leaving and open space on one side.
And the other side, which contained a huge pond, now turned into a massive lake.
Its still an amazing sight, the area is very scenic, with the mixture or the red sand on the lush green of the trees and the water.
It’s a particular pretty sight to see the sun’s reflection on the water as it sets in the evening, disappearing over the crest of the hill.
The massive pond, which connects to Palmiste, is said to be great for fishing, and hanging out.
Unfortunately the dead sand is not so good for cycling, as you would see in my video below.
Not one of my more conventional places to visit these days, but it was worth the trip down memory lane.
